the Blackmagic Design Spares - Fiber Converter - LCD 5 Inch Assy (Assembly) is the integrated monitoring and diagnostic display for the Blackmagic Studio Fiber Converter. This high-brightness, color LCD is the primary interface for operators in the rack room, providing critical real-time status of the fiber link, video feeds, and return signals.

Diagnostic Power at the Rack

The 5-inch display is not just a monitor; it is a specialized diagnostic tool tuned for the SMPTE fiber ecosystem.

  • Return Feed Monitoring: Allows engineers to quickly toggle between the camera feed and the return program feed to verify signal integrity without needing an external monitor.

  • Link Status Overlays: Displays vital "health" statistics of the fiber connection, including optical signal strength and power status.

  • Menu Navigation: Serves as the visual interface for configuring IP addresses, camera numbers, and audio routing within the Studio Converter's internal OS.

When to Replace the LCD Assembly

Because the Studio Fiber Converter is often mounted in racks where it may be bumped by heavy flight cases or cables, the LCD is a common point of mechanical and electronic failure.

  • Physical Cracking: A direct impact to the front of the 1RU unit can crack the glass or damage the liquid crystal layer, leading to "bleeding" or black spots.

  • Backlight Failure: If the screen is black but you can still see faint images when shining a flashlight on it, the internal LED backlighting or the high-voltage inverter has failed.

  • Ribbon Cable "Sparkles": Digital noise, flickering, or vertical lines on the screen often indicate that the internal high-speed LVDS ribbon cable has become frayed or oxidized.

  • Burn-in/Ghosting: In studios where the converter is left on $24/7$ displaying a static menu, the pixels can eventually "ghost," making the text difficult to read.

Key Features

  • Genuine OEM Part: Matches the exact colorimetry and brightness of the original unit, ensuring consistent monitoring across multiple converters.

  • Integrated Touch Layer: (Depending on the specific hardware revision) Includes the capacitive or resistive touch interface required for menu navigation.

  • Modular Design: Typically comes as a complete module, including the LCD panel, the protective front glass (if applicable), and the mounting bracket.

Technical Installation Note

Replacing the 5-inch LCD is a "Level 2" repair. It requires opening the chassis of the Studio Fiber Converter.

  • Ribbon Cable Caution: The LCD connects to the Video PCB via a very thin, wide-gauge ribbon cable. These connectors use a "flip-lock" or "slide-lock" mechanism. Do not pull the cable until the lock is fully released, or you will tear the traces on the cable.

  • Dust Prevention: Once the old LCD is removed, use a can of compressed air to clear any dust from the internal side of the front faceplate. Any debris trapped between the new LCD and the faceplate will be permanently visible once the unit is closed.

  • Alignment: Ensure the LCD is perfectly centered in the 1RU cutout before tightening the mounting screws. If it is slightly askew, the edge of the display may be cut off by the metal chassis.

  • Protective Film: Remember to remove the plastic shipping film from the face of the new LCD after it is securely mounted but before you close the chassis.

Expert Tip: If your screen is simply "blank" but the unit is otherwise working (producing video out of the SDI ports), try a factory reset via the Blackmagic Setup utility over USB before replacing the hardware. Sometimes a firmware glitch can disable the local display output!

Are you seeing physical damage on the glass, or has the screen simply stopped lighting up?

Long lasting for our dog. I'd buy again.
My wife fills the cups with applesauce, peanut butter and or pumpkin and then freezes it. The dog loves it and keeps him occupied for a little while. All his other toys and chews get chewed up in a couple of days and this has already been several weeks. I want to buy more cups if available. I'd buy it again and will look for similar items.

Durable, hard chew toy
My dog loves this toy!! He destroys everything but this has lasted us months. A lot of times he chews on it without us even filling the cup. Perfect size for a bigger dog like a golden retriever, but our small dog enjoys it too. Very durable chew toy!

Pieces of Plastic When Biting
My dog spent 15 minutes and then the item started to break up. As the dog was biting, little pieces were showing in his tongue. I threw it away. My dog is a lab.

Great idea
These are a good idea, I use frozen pumpkin and frozen blueberries in a cup, then put it in the corn, for my dog to have, while I'm at work.

made of STONE
i think the concept is great but the execution of the product is lacking. This is not made of rubber, there is no dog I can imagine chewing this thing. It is basically a STONE and rock hard and has absolutely zero give. She tried to chew it for one second and immediately stopped - the only thing the dog can do is lick so that aspect was disappointing. However, the toy works, keeps her attention and she loves the treat so all in all - not bad.
