In his challenging Introduction, "Gandhi and the One-Eyed Giant," Merton emphasizes the importance of action rather than mere pacifism as a central component of non-violence, and illustrates how the foundations of Gandhi's universal truths are linked to traditional Hindu Dharma, the Greek philosophers, and the teachings of Christ and Thomas Aquinas.
Educated as a Westerner in South Africa, it was Gandhi's desire to set aside the caste system as well as his political struggles in India which led him to discover the dynamic power of non-cooperation. But, non-violence for Gandhi "was not simply a political tactic," as Merton observes: "the spirit of non-violence sprang from an inner realization of spiritual unity in himself." Gandhi's politics of spiritual integrity have influenced generations of people around the world, as well as civil rights leaders from Martin Luther King, Jr. and Steve Biko to V clav Havel and Aung San Suu Kyi.
Mark Kurlansky has written an insightful preface for this edition that touches upon the history of non-violence and reflects the core of Gandhi's spiritual and ethical doctrine in the context of current global conflicts.

blends in with decor and is very functional
This Havara Kitchen Soap Dispenser looks great on my kitchen sink. Not only does it look good, it's also very functional. Filling the soap dispenser is very easy and straight forward. It fits my sponges well. It's a bit heavier than expected, but this allows it to stay in place easier. Overall, it's very sturdy and functional. Great value for the money.

Quality shears for a great price

These KitchenAid All Purpose Shears are exactly as described--versatile, comfortable to hold, easy to use, and very sharp, so it's good that they come with a protective sheath! The stainless steel holds up (even when I forgot to take them out of the dishwater one day), and makes them easy to clean, nothing seems to stick to them for long. They're perfect for opening just about any package without tearing it, even the double-thickness of pet food bags. The price was a great value, and even though I doubt I'll need another pair anytime soon, I definitely recommend them to everyone.

Great value for the price. Straightforward, sharp, easy to clean, good quality pair of kitchen/multi-function shears. So far, I have effortlessly cut thru herbs, dog chew treats, corrugated, and plastic packaging with very little resistance. The handles are wide which allow for comfortable ambidextrous grip. The first thing you'll notice is their weight, they do not feel cheaply made.

Super Handy Kitchen Scissors I Use All the Time

I didn’t realize how much I needed a good pair of kitchen shears until I got these. Now I use them almost every day. 😄
They’re nice and sharp and cut through everything easily—packaging, herbs, meat, even opening stubborn bags. It just makes little kitchen tasks so much quicker.
The handle is comfortable to hold, even if I’m using them for a bit, and they feel sturdy without being too heavy. I also really like that they come with a protective sheath, so I can store them safely in the drawer.
Cleaning is easy too—I’ve put them in the dishwasher a few times with no issues so far.
Nothing fancy, but very practical and reliable. If you cook at home a lot, these are definitely worth having around. ✂️💛
