To avoid complications and discomfort, it's crucial to follow the steps below when trimming thickened toenails:
- Soak your feet in warm water for 5 to 10 minutes to soften the nails. Once done, dry your feet and toenails thoroughly with a towel.
- Get a pair of VIVA’s nail nippers. These are lightweight and easy to grip and control, making them perfect for trimming thickened toenails. However, be cautious, as nail nippers can be very sharp.
- Commence cutting at the nail's corner and make gentle, straight snips across the entire toenail. Avoid rounding the edges, as this increases the likelihood of developing an ingrown toenail.
- Upon finishing trimming your toenails, utilize an emery board or nail file to smooth any sharp edges. This will help prevent cuts and reduce the risk of infections or ingrown toenails. Additionally, filing your nails helps prevent them from catching on your socks.
