Born eighth in a family on its way to becoming almost twice that size, Stephen Zanichkowsky immediately learned that his life was to be no Cheaper by the Dozen romp. Instead, he and his siblings fended for themselves to avoid the wrath of their father and the heartbreaking emotional distance of their mother. Silence and terror ruled. A brother was taken away by the family one day, never to return. A sister was born with a mental deficiency that was never explained. As the years went by, each child left home as soon as he or she turned eighteen, creating unaccustomed "space" by skipping the others' weddings and graduations. With artless narrative style, Zanichkowsky embarks on a journey back to the family's Lithuanian Catholic roots in Brooklyn and follows its members on a tortured climb to suburban comfort that, for him, culminates in his escape from home and the draft. Along the way, he seeks answers to lifelong questions: Why was his father so angry and uncontrollable? Why did his parents continue to have children when they didn't have enough love, patience, or money to spread around? Forty years later after leaving home, Zanichkowsky reaches out to his siblings -- most of them divorced or living alone -- and discovers a group of people still learning how to form relationships with others. In the process, the boy that once retreated into his own world emerges, whole and self-possessed. From Fourteen: I was born into a system with an established order, with people cemented into positions long before I got there. As I got older, the biggest kids gradually filled me in with things I needed to know, as if I were a new hand at the factory and needed to learn which drawers certain tools were kept in. They showed me where the shoe polish was kept; how to fry an egg (because on Sundays we could have our egg fried or scrambled if we didn't want clucked); where to put my laundry in the basement. I learned about Mom's miscarriages, because all the rest of us resemble a line of ducks and outsiders sometimes asked about the three-year gap between Rita and Jane. The bigger kids told me about our religion, our relatives, our nationality. When bath night was and how often to change my underwear. (No one, however, had an answer as to why all the girls had the same middle name: Marie.)Binding Type: Paperback

Romance, Steam, and Angst!
Format: Kindle
When successful movie star Natalie Keane hires Taylor Vaughn to be her bodyguard and fake girlfriend, it doesn't take long for their pretend attraction to spark very real feelings, but with both women deeply scarred by the past, is a Hollywood-style happy ending possible?
Strictly speaking, Cover Story is a celebrity romance. Natalie Keane is a successful film actress whose career is at a high point thanks to a recent Golden Globe nomination. She has an entourage and even lives in a large house that boasts its own observatory with a telescope. But that being said, this is not the glitzy, glamourous, escapist story some readers might associate with the celebrity romance trope. While she may be a powerful star to the outside world, internally, Natalie is quiet, introspective, and perpetually haunted by a traumatic incident from her past. Her carefully insulated world is an extension of the emotional barriers she's built around her heart.
Enter Taylor Vaughn, the sexy, competent bodyguard Natalie hires to pose as her girlfriend while providing extra security. On the surface, she's the perfect heroine to rescue the reclusive Natalie, all while their attraction sizzles to the point of combusting. But Taylor has vulnerabilities and self-doubts too, and the closer she gets to Natalie, the more she risks pushing past her own physical and emotional limitations.
Cover Story has plenty of Hollywood excitement, including red carpet interviews and movie stunts. And there is no shortage of romance or heat between Natalie and Taylor, but what really gives the story impact is the poignant and authentic journeys of heart and mind that the characters take separately and together. The journeys are not straightforward, but ultimately, they highlight the power of healing, taking risks, and finding a person to feel safe with.
If you enjoy sapphic stories with romance, steam, but also a healthy dose of angst and authenticity, you'll be captivated by Cover Story.

Chemistry/connection & spice were great, but there was so much potential for a better story!
Format: Paperback
The potential of this story was high and the chemistry and connection between the characters was well done, but the "climax" was anti-climatic unfortunately. The author could have done so much more with a story about a stalker and fame. The spicy scenes were very well written/very hot, but I wish we had a more exciting ending with higher stakes and a bigger reward for the high stakes. I had to dock 1 star for that.

hot and heavy
Format: Kindle
Although the smart is limited, it is very heavy and extremely well detailed. I loved how the love story blossom and we got to see every aspect, it seems any other book. I’ve read lately. The love story doesn’t get quite an enough detail put in. All in all it was a really nice book to read. A break from the depressing historical fiction. I’ve been reading lately.

Great Story.
Format: Kindle
I thought this book was very entertaining. I found it interesting that the main character, Natalie Keane famous actress had so much trauma since she was a child that continued to build when she was kidnapped that kept her secluded. I liked the other main character, Taylor Vaughn, a bodyguard who also supported her parents who's is so sweet of her. Taylor had physical issues that helped her relate in some way with Natalie. Though their relationship was fake at the beginning as time went on it became more real which both realized they were in love. I liked that the author gave detail descriptions of the main characters. Though I wished it was more in the beginning chapters and not throughout the story. I did like the ending and epilogue. I was a little disappointed there wasn't more. I truly enjoyed reading this. I would recommend this book to everyone that loves a good romance.
